First two days

  1. Well he’s finally home! Thanks for all the well wishes and advice! The first night he walked around and ate and drank. All seemed fine. He was hiding a lot. Today took a turn he’s refusing to eat and drink today. I’m not sure if this is a common thing or just him. The vet requested to see him tomorrow morning because of this. Hopefully it’s something simple since I’m extremely worried about my baby.

  1. Just catching up on your sweet Zazu. Such a sweetie!

Yes, it’s wuite common to not be a great eater while recovering. Plis, the hospital meds are getting out of ZaZu’s system now, so it’s really important to get the pain managed.

What pain meds is he on?
Is he drinking and peeing okay?
He may not poo for a few days, that’s fairly nor al during the first several days of recovery.

Recovery is rough for abojt two weeks-ish. It doesn’t last furever though! 🙂
    You’re doing great!

Stay connected and let us know how we can help.

  2. Hello 🙂 the first week or so are the hardest. Po is almost 3 weeks post-op and almost back to his old happy self.
Po went through the exact same thing. The first day after coming home he drank and ate but the subsequent days I had to bring water to him and treats cause he would not even get up. He just lay there depressed. He didn’t even eat regular food for a week.
I would definitely take him in to the vet to make sure he is ok and there are no underlying causes to his lethargy but he just had a traumatic surgery.
    wish you the best.

  3. I’m glad to hear Zazu got home & very relieved you are taking him to the Vet to get looked at.

Hiding is normal all of our cats come home and want to hide. They know they are hurt/injured and like a den like area it recover in. Purrkins chose a closet to recover in. You need a place ou can access them easily for meds. You want to always block off under the bed or put the bed on the floor because 99.9% odds are that is where they go and you cannot reach them. Under the bed not good place for recovering kitty.

Depends on the meds you were sent home with and if his pain is managed. Some of the meds can make them not want to eat and we have to stimulate their senses. We alway suggest wet food in recovery so you don’t have to worry so much on them drinking they will get the moisture from the food. I used smelly foods to stimulate Purrkins sense fishy foods tuna and salmon. Chicken and Herring those worked for us. You can also use tuna water or sardine water to help Zazu get some fluids just some ideas . If Zazu like fishy things;)

All paws crossed the meds just need tweaked or added & Zazu comes back home and rests.
Recovery isn’t always easy but it does not last long the first week is the hardest/

Feel better Zazu will watch to see how you made out today.

    Hugs
    Holly & Purrkins
